Spotify App auf Windows Phone 7 in Deutschland / Spotify on Windows Phone 7 from Germany

Seit einigen Tagen ist nach langer Wartezeit endlich Spotify fuer das Windows Phone 7 erschienen. Leider, leider wurde die App nicht in den deutschen Marketplace eingestellt. Mit einem kleinen Trick ist es aber trotzdem moeglich, die Spotify App auch aus Deutschland heraus zu nutzen.

Vorraussetzungen

• Ein ungelocktes Telefon. Am einfachsten mit einem Entwickleraccount, ansonsten ChevronWP oder aehnliches
• Ein bezahlter Spotify Premium Account

Der Schluessel zur Installation ist ein kleines Tool names Phone7Market. Damit ist es moeglich, die .XAP Pakete fuer kostenlose Apps aus dem Marketplace zu laden. Praktischerweise wird nicht nur der deutsche Marketplace unterstuetzt, sondern auch die anderssprachigen Varianten.

Mit einer einfachen Suche im en-US Marketplace nach “Spotify” findet man das entsprechende Paket und es laesst sich aus dem Tool heraus direkt auf dem Device installieren:

Abschliessend ist noch zu sagen dass die App hervorragend funktioniert und eine sehr angenehme Metro Oberflaeche zum eigenen Spotify-Profil bereit stellt.

Export Multiple Charts from Excel (Office) To PDF For LaTeX Inclusion At Once

I still receive a lot of hits for my earlier post about how to export Excel charts to PDF in order to include them in a LaTeX document. Various keywords also indicate that a lot of people want to kind of automate that process and export many charts at once. Luckily that is also possible now. I have not checked for the PC version yet (if you do it would be great if you could tell me in the comments or view some other channel but here is how-to for Microsoft Excel 2011 for the Mac:

1. Create your charts (that step should be obvious)

2. Select all your charts (hold shift and click):

3. Select “Save as Picture” from the context menu

4. Check the Box “Save each graphic as a separate file” and select format PDF:
 5. Enter a name. Note: The name entered here will result in Excel: a) creating a directory with the name b) saving each selected diagram with name “<entered-name>-<number>.pdf”. So for example “Charts”:
with the two earlier selected charts will result in:
6. All selected charts will be saved and automatically cropped, ready to be included in your document.

7. This works similarly in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint.

Gemeinsam genutztes OneNote Notebook auf Skydrive

Ich vertraue jeder schlechten Notiz hundertmal mehr als meinem guten Gedaechtnis und neben meinen diversen Moleskine Notebooks fuer alltaegliche Notizen setze ich bei digitalen vor allem auf Microsoft Office OneNote.

Ich nutze OneNote z.B. um all meine privaten, beruflichen sowie Uni-Projekte zu verwalten, zu planen und mir generelle Notizen zu allen moeglichen Themen zu machen. Was bisher leider noch fehlte, ist eine Moeglichkeit schnell und einfach Notebooks mit Kollegen/Freunden zu teilen. Innerhalb einer Firma gibt es die Moeglichkeit ein OneNote Notebook auf einem Sharepoint Server oder einem oeffentlichen Netzlaufwerk abzulegen und privat klappt die Synchronisation mittels Microsoft Live Mesh ganz gut. Was ich aber schon seit Ewigkeiten am liebsten haette, waeren OneNote Notebooks auf Microsoft Live SkyDrive, so dass ich sie von ueberall jedem per Mausklick zugaenglich machen kann (vorausgesetzt derjenige besitzt eine LiveID).

Mit OneNote 2010 ist diese Moeglichkeit wohl vorgesehen,

aber wie man sieht: “This service is currently not available”.

Jetzt hat jemand aber herausgefunden, dass man DOCH per WebDAV (Protokoll, mit dem OneNote klar kommt) auf das schoene SkyDrive zugreifen kann. Man muss nur wissen, ueber welche LoadBalancer oder was auch immer URL das SkyDrive zu erreichen ist. Praktischerweise gibt es dazu ein kleines Tool unter http://skydrivesimpleviewer.codeplex.com/.

Auf der Konsole ausgefuehrt gibt man seine LiveID sowie sein Passwort an

und erhaelt kurz darauf eine nette Auflistung ueber die Ordner im SkyDrive samt passenden URLs (ohne meine Anonymisierung in dem Bild natuerlich):

Diese URL(s) koennen wir jetzt ganz normal beim erstellen eines neuen Notebooks in OneNote angeben, und auf einfache Art und Weise ein Notebook mit Freunden/Bekannten/Kollegen teilen.

Zum Oeffnen in der OneNote Backstage View einfach “Open” auswaehlen, Adresse wie z.B.

eingeben und notieren!

PS: Falls man Zeichen wie ein & in seinem LiveID Passwort hat, die von der Windows Konsole interpretiert werden, einfach mit Anfuehrungszeichen umschliessen.

PS2: Es wird Passport Authentifizierung verwendet, daher funktioniert das ganze nur unter Windows.

Update:

Mit Office 2010 kann man ganz wunderbar direkt aus OneNote (wie aus allen Office Programmen) auf sein SkyDrive zugreifen, d.h. diese Post ist quasi obsolet.

Some useful remark I found elsewhere: “You can put the graph as a separate document tab (opposed to inside a sheet)”. If you then follow the same steps i.e. save as PDF, then you don’t have to do the things with the margins.

For the evaluation part of my thesis I had to include a lot of charts. The scientific approach proably would have been to use gnuplot, but my tool of choice for any kind of charts is Microsoft Excel 2007.
